2007

I've read a number of blogs today - and most had entries talking about their year. I felt like I should jump on this bandwagon.

Winter '07 (January, February, March)
Like so many recent years past, my resolution last year involved running. I wanted to do 5ks and even 10ks all spring and summer. Instead I ended up seeing an osteopathic doctor about my knees and then a physical therapist. I did stay in shape and continued to see my trainer.

New Years was spent in Olean, NY. Like many New Years Eves, D was sick. It's his birthday, but he tends to get sick more years than not. Sometimes it's bad decisions on his part, but certainly not always. Last year was suspected food poisoning from tuna fish. I stayed back at the B&B with D while the others went out to Holiday Valley to celebrate.

We took an introduction to adoption class at Children's Hospital this quarter. We learned a lot and it brought quite a bit to the surface.

The first trip to Dallas for the year was during this time. We were helping D's sister find a new home for their mother. She had just moved down there with her husband and kids, and their mom wanted to be close to the grandkids.

Spring '07 (April, May, June)
April brought D's trip to Vegas. He and his sis enjoy going there as often as possible but it had been awhile. It was a successful trip that eventually brought us a brand new LCD TV. Yeah!.

The end of May brought my most recent trip to St. John. T & I went - just the girls. It was awesome, until the last day when T was sick. But before that we saw beaches we'd never been to before, hiked to Ram's Head, snorkeled to private beaches, and had our own Fletch moment at Caneel. T won first place in her division for the annual beach to beach swim, and I successfully drove on left side of the road! I was also inspired to start a my own side-business - well, the seed was planted there at least.

June was a short trip to PA, but we hadn't been there in awhile to visit so it was nice. I had my favorite blizzard which I can only get at that DQ. We helped friends who had a baptism for triplets and a "singlet" that weekend.

I took a couple drawing classes at the Castle during this time. I was hoping they'd help with that business I wanted to start. I enjoyed them and learned I could draw. But I also realized it'd be decades before I could do the kind of work I wanted. I would still need to find outside, artistic help for my vision.

Summer '07 (July, August, September)
July 4th was a bit cool. We'd planned to go tubing but instead opted to canoe. It was my first time canoeing since a traumatic pre-teen experience. Not traumatic in the 'almost drowned' sense or anything but traumatic in the 'family vacation/could need therapy to get over it sort of way.' This canoe trip was MUCH more fun and I will definitely go again.

By the end of July, I had new excitement and a new focus for the rest of the year. I found out I was pregnant! We told our families and a couple close friends in early August. I changed OBs before even visiting mine. I couldn't deal with the front staff - they never seemed to listen and after making me cry I decided I'd had it. Granted I was a bit emotional at that time, but still. I'm very happy with the switch and my new office and doctor. Everyone is lovely and pleasant.

Our second trip to Texas was in early August. D's mom moved down there. We met her and his sis J at the airport and the three of them (there are two sisters, A & J) spent the rest of the weekend getting their mom settled. I spent the weekend lying down. I had been feeling great, even after the warning from the nurse that morning sickness could set in any day. It hit about 15mins before our flight boarded for TX and it lasted for about 10-12 more weeks. I was miserable down there as I had no coping skills yet.

We had our first doctor appointment & ultrasound in late August. The photos from that led to the baby's knickname, Grasshopper as that's what the little one looked like at 7.5 weeks.

I turned 31 at the end of August and we had a very nice dinner out - I got dressed up. My cubicle at work was decorated in an island theme. It was fun!

Fall '07 (October, November, December)
My second ultrasound was in October. We opted not to find out the sex of the baby. The doctor did write it in an envelope in case we (I) changed my mind. It's still sealed and on the fridge. By now the morning sickness had decreased and I definitely looked pregnant. It was funny - there were a couple weeks at work where people asked others if I was pregnant because they were not sure and it was not evident enough to ask me. But rather soon after that, maybe 2 weeks, it was obvious and people just started commenting and questioning me directly.

My parents came down in October and we registered for my baby showers. It was early, but we knew we were going to have on in Texas before the holidays.

Thanksgiving was non-eventful. I made dinner for just D & I (tofurkey & all the fixins). I ruined my apple pie. Pregnancy forgetfulness was in full swing. I forgot to add flour so I ended up with a lovely crust covering apple soup. Yuck.

We traveled to TX the first weekend in December for the baby shower there (so D's mom could attend; and plus I have family there on my mom's side). It was a beautiful weekend and the shower was fun.

This year we spent the holidays with my family - probably the first time in 4 years. We visited our friend who was in town from Australia (same one whose wedding we attended & New Years celebration we missed last holidays). New Years was spent quietly with friends. It was all a great end to a great year. And next year will be a total change for us - but a good one!

Happy New Year!
